Kumasi-based musician Kweku Darlington has opened up about a severe and mysterious illness that left him bedridden for over a year, revealing the drastic measures he took to combat what he believes was a spiritual attack.
In a heartfelt interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning show, Kweku Darlington, born Emmanuel Kweku Owusu Darlington, recounted his battle with a debilitating illness that significantly impacted his life and career. The illness, which started with symptoms in his eye, gradually worsened, leaving him immobile and unable to continue his music career.
A Spiritual Struggle Beyond Medical Help
Darlington initially dismissed the symptoms as minor, but as his condition deteriorated, he realized that conventional medical treatments were ineffective. “It wasn’t a hospital thing but spiritual because it started with my eye. I went to the clinic, and they did everything they could do but didn’t find the cause. They gave me drugs and injections, spectacles, and other things, but nothing happened,” he explained.
As his health continued to decline, Darlington sought help from a spiritual congregation he was familiar with at the Atwea Mountains. “I was there sometimes ago, and they were able to identify what was happening to me,” he said. The congregation performed a series of spiritual interventions, including a ritual in which he was buried up to his neck, with only his head exposed.
A Journey to Recovery
Describing the experience, Darlington said, “It even came off my skin. It was so bad that I couldn’t even go out. I still have some of the marks on my skin. The whole idea was just to keep me inside so I couldn’t come outside because I’m dangerous when I’m outside. In a nutshell, I was buried with only my head out.”
He credits these spiritual efforts for his gradual recovery, explaining that they needed to address the spiritual causes before medical treatments could be effective. “After identifying it, we had to clear all of them before I could take drugs,” he shared.
